West Orange-Stark Middle School kicked Teacher Appreciation Week off in style with a little red carpet treatment and coffee-on-the-go from Grit N Grind Coffee Shop. Teachers showed off their fashionable fits, living the life full of glitz and glamour they deserve!

The library also got a makeover into an A-list lounge, where teachers could enjoy their coffee treats and take pictures at the selfie wall.

At this evening's Regular Board Meeting, we found out why the "E" in WOSE is for EXCELLENCE! The meeting began with Alani Patin leading the invocation and Jerni Jones leading the pledges. The Board recognized Belinda Huerta as Employee of the Month, Patrice Ivory as Teacher of the Month, and Adrian Garrett as Student of the Month! The Board also recognized the WOSE UIL team. This year's competitors set a new record at the "E": they had the most teams place in UIL Competition! CONGRATULATIONS to all of our Mustangs!

West Orange-Stark Middle School knows how to spice up schoolwork! 🥘

Today, Mrs. Marie had her class cook up a big pot of jambalaya. Students worked together on fractions, measuring ingredients, and following a recipe to delicious results.

Students also learned about and discussed the origins and history of this classic Creole dish. After all that hard work, they got to dig in and share their opinions of their jambalaya. And let me tell you, these Mustangs sure do know how to cook!

April is Autism Acceptance Month, a time when we recognize those on the Autism spectrum and raise awareness of their unique perspectives on the world. It is an important reminder that disability does not equal inability. Raising awareness of neurodiversity is the first step toward building understanding and acceptance.
As the name implies, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) includes a broad range of factors that affect each individual differently. Mustang Nation is made up of a diverse group of students, including those with Autism and other neurodiversities. West Orange-Cove CISD reaffirms our commitment to bringing awareness and understanding to our neurodivergent students so that everyone is accepted in the Mustang Family!

Over the years, the autism community has moved away from using the puzzle piece logo. It has instead adopted the infinity loop and rainbow, symbolizing endless possibilities and the wide spectrum of neurodivergence.

Let's hear it for the Department of Child Nutrition! This week, West Orange-Cove CISD was one of four school districts that received the Best of the Bunch Award at this year's Megacon! Megacon is an annual conference hosted by the Texas Department of Agriculture for school nutrition professionals and district leaders. To win this award, school districts must:
✅ Serve three different local foods representing three different meal components each week during October
✅ Host at least one educational activity during each full week of the challenge
✅ Share at least one social media post during the challenge
Winning this award proves the Mustangs' commitment to fresh, local foods and meaningful nutrition education for students! 💚🌱

Attention parents! Applications for the Parent-Directed Special Education Services grant will be available soon! Starting April 1, eligible families can receive $1,500 in funds to purchase a variety of educational supplies. To learn more, visit tea.texas.gov.

Mustangs at West Orange-Stark Middle School also got a chance to celebrate their excellence last week for their performance on the mock STAAR test.

Students who earned 'Meets Grade Level' performance got to take one school period to have some fun in the gym. They played basketball, volleyball, and video games as a reward for their hard work.

This week, WOCCISD Superintendent Dr. Alicia Sigee, along with members of our Team of Eight, are heading to the 2026 TASB Governance Camp, Powered by Student Voice! This unique conference allows trustees, superintendents, education leaders, and students from across Texas to participate in an immersive learning experience through student-led sessions and demonstrations! This valuable information, provided through the lens of other Texas students, will help empower our Mustangs to become future leaders and innovators!
