The West Orange-Cove CISD Child Nutrition Department has #AcceptedTheFarmFreshChallenge of 2026 to support local Texas Farmers by creating menus with items grown right here in the Lone Star State! Here is what's on the menu in the Stallion Alley Cafe at West Orange-Stark Middle School:

- A mouthwatering Chicken Cubano served on a warm Italian garlic bun with fresh Texas-grown lettuce🥬 and sliced oranges🍊; wash it all down with ice-cold milk from the Hilland Dairy🥛!

-They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so the Stallions are starting their morning right with a juicy turkey sausage patty served with fluffy scrambled eggs, warm toast, and a refreshing side of locally grown watermelon🍉!

-Need something to grab n' go? These crispy chicken tender wraps with locally grown lettuce are sure to hit the spot!

-In the mood for a little homestyle cooking? Look no further than the Stallion Alley Cafe, where they're serving up warm, delicious bowls of okra and sausage made with locally sourced, Texas-grown okra!

Did you also know the Stallions have a green thumb (or should we say a green hoof)? That's right, they even grow their own herbs! In March, the Stallions received an aerogarden from the USDA Mega Conference; a few months later, voila! Home-grown dill, parsley, and mint, perfect for seasoning Texas English Cucumber salad!

This morning, Superintendent Dr. Alicia Sigee met with students at West Orange-Stark Middle School for a Student Roundtable. Students from each grade level had the opportunity to give their perspective on the issues affecting their campus, share what improvements they'd like to see, and ask questions directly to the Superintendent. Hearing from students helps the administration understand the impact district and campus policies have on students' day-to-day learning, and empowers students to make their voice heard in shaping their learning environment.

The roundtable will reconvene later in the school year to evaluate the progress made since this first meeting. Thanks to all the Stallions who participated and work hard every day to build #MustangMomentum.

A lot is happening in WOCCISD Child Nutrition this October!

October 1 kicks off the Farm Fresh Challenge! Through this challenge, we highlight Texas-grown and locally sourced fruits, vegetables, meats, and grains served in our school meals. Last year, the WOCCISD Child Nutrition Department was proud to receive the 2025–2026 Best of the Bunch Award from the Texas Department of Agriculture. 🍎

We are also excited that the Texas Department of Agriculture has once again selected West Orange-Stark Elementary to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Our WOSE Child Nutrition team has previously earned TDA's Pear-Fection Award, and we are excited to continue building on that success as we work toward another recognition this school year! 🍐

To make October even more exciting, the WOCCISD Child Nutrition Department will celebrate National School Lunch Week, October 12–16, 2026. This year's celebration will feature a fun circus theme, with special healthy circus-inspired menus, student and staff activities, giveaways, and maybe even a surprise guest or two! 🎪

October will be a fun and exciting month in Child Nutrition, and we look forward to celebrating with our students and staff!
