April is Autism Acceptance Month, a time when we recognize those on the Autism spectrum and raise awareness of their unique perspectives on the world. It is an important reminder that disability does not equal inability. Raising awareness of neurodiversity is the first step toward building understanding and acceptance.
As the name implies, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) includes a broad range of factors that affect each individual differently. Mustang Nation is made up of a diverse group of students, including those with Autism and other neurodiversities. West Orange-Cove CISD reaffirms our commitment to bringing awareness and understanding to our neurodivergent students so that everyone is accepted in the Mustang Family!

Over the years, the autism community has moved away from using the puzzle piece logo. It has instead adopted the infinity loop and rainbow, symbolizing endless possibilities and the wide spectrum of neurodivergence.

Let's hear it for the Department of Child Nutrition! This week, West Orange-Cove CISD was one of four school districts that received the Best of the Bunch Award at this year's Megacon! Megacon is an annual conference hosted by the Texas Department of Agriculture for school nutrition professionals and district leaders. To win this award, school districts must:
✅ Serve three different local foods representing three different meal components each week during October
✅ Host at least one educational activity during each full week of the challenge
✅ Share at least one social media post during the challenge

West Orange-Stark Golf is on a roll, claiming another victory as Team Champions at the UIL District 18-4A Junior Varsity Girls Tournament.

Attention Mustangs! Due to a bomb threat at the nearby Golden Triangle Polymers facility, WOSHS is under temporary lockdown. All students are safe and accounted for on campus.

The UIL District 18-4A Varsity Golf Tournament, hosted by West Orange-Stark at Bayou Din Golf Course, came to a close today with some exciting Mustang news!

Sophia Ibarra and William Pugh represented WOS in these two days of intense golf competition. Sophia topped the ladies' leaderboard on both days, walking away with a top score of 170- earning the Girls Medalist plaque and the district title.

From the opening tee shot to the final putt on hole 36, Sophia showcased a complete competitive profile—focused, intentional, resilient, and unwaveringly structured. Tested at every turn, she met the moment with composure and confidence, navigating the course with precision and purpose. Her mastery was on full display throughout the tournament, a reflection of her tireless dedication and commitment to her craft.

One of the defining highlights of her championship run came on the par-4 third hole, where Sophia delivered a spectacular eagle hole-out—an electrifying moment that underscored both her skill and her ability to rise above the field when it mattered most.

With this victory, Sophia advances to represent West Orange-Stark High School at the Regional Tournament, scheduled for April 15–16, 2026, at Bearkat Golf Course in Huntsville, Texas.

Sophia’s performance not only secured a district title but set the tone for what promises to be an exciting postseason. We look forward to watching her continue to compete at the highest level.
