October is Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Month in Texas. Fentanyl is a highly potent synthetic opioid that is deadly in the smallest of doses. In 2018, Mical and Wyndi Padgett lost their son Blain, a Rice University football player from Sour Lake, to a fentanyl overdose after he took a painkiller that contained the drug. He was only 21. The Padgetts have turned their tragedy into a powerful message of prevention, which they shared with WOSMS and WOSHS today. They encouraged our students to never experiment with drugs or take any substance that is not prescribed by a doctor. We thank the Padgetts for sharing their story with our students.
