Cleared land where the new Early Childhood Center will be built

In 2024, West Orange-Cove CISD passed a bond that paved the way for numerous improvements throughout the district. From a new early childhood center to infrastructure, security systems, and transportation, the bond has had a major impact on the district's overall outlook, benefiting future Mustangs.

“What led to the pursuit of the 2024 bond was the need for new schools,” said Dr. Alicia Sigee, WOCCISD Superintendent.

She explained that both West Orange-Stark Middle School and the North Early Learning Center needed “deep repair,” and that the cost of maintaining the facilities does not outweigh the benefits of constructing new ones.

Sigee emphasized that passing the bond was not a one-person decision. The district had to “go out and campaign” to the public, which in turn gave the community the power to vote on whether to pass the bond. Ultimately, the bond was passed, clearing the way for WOCCISD to begin construction and renovation projects throughout the district.

Since then, several projects have already been implemented throughout the district. With the addition of two charter buses and seven remodeled buses, transportation is ready to roll. The district has already upgraded its fire and safety alarms and will install two new playgrounds at West Orange-Stark Elementary, which will be ready in the Fall.

However, the centerpiece of the bond is the new early childhood center currently under construction. The NELC campus has served students for nearly 100 years, making the new facility one of the most significant projects funded by the bond. Sigee reassures the community that the old campus will not be abandoned.

“In the long run, it will most likely be used as a place for storage,” she explained.

While many of the bond projects are still in progress, the improvements already made throughout the district demonstrate the 2024 bond's lasting impact. As construction continues and new facilities take shape, WOCCISD is working to ensure that future generations of Mustangs have access to safer, more efficient, and modern learning environments.
