     “Oftentimes individuals may not realize that they meet the federal classification for ‘homeless,’” Dr. Wayne Guidry, WOCCISD Director of Federal Programs, Testing, and Accountability, said.
     A family is considered homeless when they are without shelter, live in hotels/motels, campgrounds, emergency shelters, and are awaiting foster care.
     “One is considered homeless when they lack fixed, regular, and an adequate night-time residence. They are also considered homeless if they share housing or have substandard housing that does not have electricity or running water. Overcrowded households may also meet the guideline,” Dr. Guidry said.
     The intent of the McKinney-Vento grant is to supply goods and services to homeless children in order to help them be successful in school. Grant funds can provide school supplies, school uniforms, reduced lunches and additional tutoring.
     “If you feel that your child who is a student at West Orange-Cove could be identified as homeless, please contact their school for a residency form,” Dr. Guidry said.

     West Orange – Cove CISD will administer Credit by Exam tests for the 2011-2012 school year on August 10 and 11, 2011; January 10, 11, 2012; and June 6 and 7, 2012.
     Credit by exam is available in grade levels one through 12. This includes exams for credit by exam with prior instruction and credit by exam without prior instruction.
     A student planning to take an examination for acceleration is required to register with the principal.
     Questions concerning Credit by Exams should be directed to the West Orange – Cove CISD Curriculum Office at 882-5555 or to the appropriate campus principal: West Orange - Stark Elementary - 882-5630; WO-S Middle – 882-5520; and WO-S High – 882-5570.
     Credit by Exams follow WOCCISD School Board Policies EEJA and EEJB.
]]> <![CDATA["Family Access" opens gradebook to Parents]]> http://www.woccisd.net/apps/bbmessages/show_bbm.jsp?REC_ID=46220 http://www.woccisd.net/apps/bbmessages/show_bbm.jsp?REC_ID=46220      Parents of students in the West Orange - Cove school system are invited to download and complete "Family Access" documents to gain access to the District's on-line parent portal which will allow parents to view their child’s grades, attendance, and other school information on-line.  
     "Family Access" parent meetings will be held throughout the school year to provide instruction and opportunities for questions. Information will also be presented regarding acquiring student specific passwords, which will be necessary for parents to reach “Family Access” through the District website.
     The training meetings will be held in the Carl Godwin Auditorium, 2020 Western Avenue. Parent Meeting dates will be posted on the WOCCISD website.
     Parents need only to attend one training session. Identification will be required upon completion of Family Access forms.
     Downloadable Family Access application forms, as well as training materials, are also available on the West Orange – Cove CISD website: www.woccisd.net
     Parents should submit completed forms to the child's campus attendance clerk.
