in different industries. Decided to go back to school and was too late
to apply to Texas A & M. So I went to Lamar one semester and then
transferred to A & M. I had four businesses (one was a partnership with
my younger brother Peter) while at A & M and about 25 employees. Because
I was self employed, I was able to pay as I go for both my wife and
myself (we were both full-time students). I sold two of the businesses.
After school, we moved to Colorado (near Boulder). Our house was at
about 8,000 feet elevation. We lived there until 1989 when we moved to
Houston. I built custom homes with a friend for while and then started
an office supply company with three friends. In 1999, I broke away from
them and started an office furniture company and printing company. I
grew these companies while growing a family. At that time we had four
kids. In '02, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. My wife was
pregnant with our fifth (and last) child. Needless to say, our lives
were completely turned upside down. I had to stop working and let my
businesses dwindle. Staying alive was top priority. Five times I came
very close to dying. We had our fifth child while I was going through
chemo (I delivered four of my kids). It's been a long hard battle for
the last six years. But, after countless rounds of chemo, radiation,
GVHD treatment and two blood and marrow transplants, I am finally
pulling out of it. My wonderful wife, Marcia (Yenik- from Houston), who
had to pull double duty of mom and dad while also acting as my caregiver
is the most wonderful woman (right alongside my mom) I have every known.
We have been married since 1986 and it keeps getting better. We also
(Marcia, mostly) homeschool our five lovely children. Zachary (17) is a
senior this year and about to become an Eagle Scout. He is going to
Texas A & M next year. Olivia (14), Scout (12), Atticus (8) and Samuel
