Parents Day Summit

Parents are invited to attend a Parents Day Summit hosted by the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE, http://www.nabse.org) Saturday, November 20, 2010. The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 2: 30 p.m.  at the Conference Center in Fort Worth, Texas. The Parent Commission’s Parent Summit is part of the NABSE 38th National Conference Nov. 17-21, 2010.  Topics currently scheduled to be addressed at the Summit include:

·         What’s Available for Parents / Families and How Do I Get It

·         Update on the Reauthorization of No Child Left Behind Act

·         The U.S. Department of Education Strategy for Turning Around the Lowest Performing Schools

·         Parental Involvement in Every School: Elementary, Middle, and High School

·         Understanding Texas Academic Content Standards

·         What’s New is Special Education & How to Understand and Monitor Your Child’s IEP and Related Services

·         A Honest Conversation About Parent / Family Engagement

·         What Every Parent Needs to Know About Elementary Secondary Education Act (NCLB) – Parental Involvement Title I Section 1118

·         Health Screening / Health Discussion

·         Family – Educator Dialogues

Presenters will be from the United States Department of Education, as well as from across the Nation and State.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20. The registration cost is $90 per person.
